While I was an undergraduate in Mechanical Engineering at NCSU, I was enrolled in the Co-op program for a total of 22 months. Both of the companies that I worked for (Volvo and Meritor) are located in the Asheville area. This gave me a chance to attend AB Tech in the evenings after work, and work toward an Associates Degree in Welding Technology.  I didn't have a chance to finish the associates degree, but I learned a lot and have used it throughout my engineering career.  These are some of the projects that I worked on at AB Tech.

This is a water pump stand that I built for a project in commercial and industrial practices. It holds a large water tank underneath.
This is an ornamental fireplace cover that was in progress at the time of the picture. I learned how to use a forge to make several of the parts in the fireplace cover.
I've taken several welding certification tests.  All welding certification tests are in accordance with AWS (American Welding Society) standards. Upon passing the test students are certified to the applicable AWS welding code. While I was at AB Tech I earned three welding certifications. The first is for SMAW vertical (3F) the second is SMAW overhead (4F), and the third is GMAW short circuit transfer overhead (4F). I have practiced for and attempted the open root 6G position pipe test with E6010 and E7018.
